If you have been following my post on soap making, you should have been acquainted by now with the basic process of soap making. Today as the title suggest, we are going to learn how to make shampoo bar using castor oil, palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil and jojoba oil.
Before we dash into today's business let's look briefly at the functions of these oils.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of castor oil plant. It is soothing to the skin, it has lubricating properties, it is widely used in lipstick making, bath oils and solid perfumes.

Palm oil
Palm oil is gotten from fruits of palm oil tree. In fact nearly everything in the Palm oil tree is useful. Palm oil make soaps to be strong and lasting and forms lather at a considerable amount.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is gotten from the coconut. It has been used from time immemorial for various skin care product, cosmetic and hair formula. It is a natural antibacterial and antifungal, it penetrates the skin easily and has been used as moisturizers by many cosmetic companies, it is also nice when applied to the hair, it forms lather easily.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is made from the pressing of olive fruit and has always been used to moisturize hair and skin. It is antibacterial in nature and can be used to treat dandruff.
Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is a natural liquid from the kernel of jojoba desert plant. It has antibacterial properties and is very nice for dry skin.

352g Castor oil
132g Palm oil
242g Coconut oil
264g Olive oil
50g Jojoba oil
138g lye
375ml distilled water

Procedure
- Dissolve the lye ( sodium hydroxide) in water, use your thermometer to check the temperature
- When the lye temperature is about 70 degree Celsius, combine all your oil and heat them with low heat to 50 degree Celsius. By this time, the lye temperature must have decreased to 50 degree Celsius.
- Drop the oil down and gradually turn your lye into the bucket containing the preheated oil and stir to blend until trace.
- Add colour and fragrance to the mixture and stir continuously
- Before now, your mold should have been ready so, turn all the mixture into the various molds and cover with cardboard and also use a towel to cover everything to keep it warm.
- After 48 hours, remove the soap from the molds and cut them to size.
- Package them in a polythene bag and allow for three weeks to cure if you want to use them as bar soap.
- But if you want to use them as liquid soap, liquefy them after 48 hours
