I wanted to carryout a survey on the price of making liquid soap across Nigeria, so I decided to ask my fellow DIY members because since the beginning of this year, the prices of various market stuffs have increase greatly. This was my question "  I wish to know the price of making 10litres liquid soap in your different locations. I think its a bit on the high side in my area (Calabar). Melt and pour soaps are soaps made from already made soaps. They are melted using heat and then modified a little bit and turned into a mould to become bar again. Advantages of making this type of soap are: it  saves  time, there is less likelihood of hazards and does not have a long curing time. Once the soap is dried, it is ready for use.

 The benefits of olive oil to the skin are innumerable. This range from enriching the skin with vital nutrients to mopping out free radicals from the skin thereby preventing aging. It  is very safe  for the most sensitive skin. It contains anti-aging phenol. It tones, brighten and remove wrinkles from the skin.

Today as the title suggest, we are going to learn how to make shampoo bar using castor oil, palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil and jojoba oil. Before we dash into today's business let's look briefly at the functions of these oils.

Today I am going to share with you my favorite antiseptic soap made from purely natural oils. Before I go further to the procedure of making this wonderful antiseptic soap, I will like to highlight briefly on  the functions of each of these  oils.

Black Soap is a soap with particular usage in the African society. Black Soap  before long has been used as antiseptic bathing soap. Before the production of lye from synthetic products, soap makers made lye from the ashes of hard wood. The advent of synthetic lye has slowly reduced the usage of  natural lye in soap making. But a few people still use them to make soap. Potassium hydroxide is mostly used to make  liquid soap but in this case, it can be used to make semi solid soaps.

Earlier, I posted recipe on how to make liquid soap using the cold process. Today I’m going to share with you the hot process of making liquid soap. In one of the previous post, I talk about the difference between caustic soda (NaOH, Sodium hydroxide) and Caustic Potash (KOH, Potassium hydroxide).   Caustic soda is used for making solid soaps, while caustic potash is used for making liquid soap.

Saponification is the chemical process where a lye  or caustic soda ( Sodium hydroxide) or Potassium hydroxide (Caustic potash) reacts with oils to form soap. Like I said in the previous post , for soap to be formed, it must undergo the process of saponification. I also mentioned that any oil can be used to combined with lye to form soap. Each type  oil has a different proportion of lye needed to saponify it. There's need for consistency in measurement. Never measure lye, oils and water in volume but rather it should by weight. When using weight, do not mix the method for example grammes and ounce at the same time. If you are using grammes, use grammes throughout your measurements. If you are using ounce, stick to ounce throughout your measurements.

After this post, you will not lack what to incorporate into your soap to make it unique. A soap is simply a salt of fatty acid. The fatty acid here is your Oil. Remember oils are liquid on room temperature while fats are solids at room temperature so they are used interchangeably.

Today we are going to learn how to make coconut oil soap. The first step is to get your mold ready. So that after the mixing you can turn your soap into the mold. The next thing you need is a bucket lets say 20 litres paint container. Remember to put on your safety equipment. i.e  goggles for the eyes, mask for the nose, and gloves. Also, keep vinegar around in case any chemical spill on you, you can apply  vinegar  on that spot and it will neutralize the burns. You also need a mixer but if you don’t have, you can use a very long stick to stir. It also recommended that you have a thermometer so that you mix things together at the proper temperature so that your bars come out right.

Laundry soaps are soaps used for washing  clothes. From these simple steps, you will be able to make your own homemade laundry soap. The beauty of it is, you can tweak it anyhow you want it. You can also add other ingredient to make toilet soap. The procedure below forms the basic procedure for making soap. Make sure you put on protective clothes, goggles, face mask and shoe to avoid corrosion caused by  lye.  Also, vinegar should be kept in case of accident. Simply apply vinegar to the area to neutralize the level of corrosion. The lye used in this procedure is Caustic soda ( known as NaOH in the laboratory). They are several oil you can use to make soap but the oil used in this recipe is palm kernel oil. So, you can also replace palm kernel oil if you wish. Liquid soap is one of the simplest soaps to make. Once measured, the steps are very clear and concise. The liquid soap below is made in 5 litres. You can increase yours by multiplying each measurement by the numbers of litres you want to make. Since there's a huge demand for the purchase of the ingredients needed for making liquid soap, sellers of liquid soap ingredients have the measurement already.
