Types of Perfume

Today I am talking about  types of perfume. Lot of folks don't really know the different  types of perfume. Have you ever wondered why some perfume do last longer than others? Some last for three hours, some 5 hours, some 24 hours, some even to an extended period of time. Each of these types of perfume will be illustrated and the percentage of alcohol to fragrance or essential oil will be provided.

Your knowledge on the types of perfume will serve as a road map to your market niche. There are people who like mild smell that last for a short time, some like strong smell that last for a very long period of time. So, getting to know about the types of perfume will help you know how to package your finished product.

Lets get cracking

Parfum or extrait, This type of perfume carries the highest concentration of fragrance or essential oil that range from 15% to 40%. . For example if we are to make perfume in 100ml, from 15ml to 40ml will be the total amount of all the fragrance while 85ml to 60ml will be the amount of methanol or ethanol. My last Tutorial on perfume making fall within this category though it was a little bit higher than this because some Fragrance sold commercially  have been diluted.

Espirit de Parfum (ESdP): It is slightly closer to the first type with fragrance concentration of 15 - 30%. For example, making a perfume with the 100ml in volume, the measurement of the fragrance will range from 15ml to 30ml while methanol will range from 85ml to  70ml of methanol or ethanol.

Eau de Parfum: Eau de parfum generally has a fragrance concentration of between 15% and 20%. On average, its 15% concentration. Example, fragrance concentration will be between 15ml to 20ml while methanol or ethanol will be between 85ml to 80ml.

Eau de Toilette (EdT): 5–15% of fragrance concentration

Eau de Cologne (EdC), often simply called cologne: 3–8%. it is the least concentrated perfume. it last for very few hours.

Final note
The intensity and longevity of a perfume is based on the concentration, intensity and longevity of the fragrance, or perfume oils, used. As the percentage of fragrance increases, so does the intensity and longevity of the scent. choose the type of perfume that soothes your market and get started.

Do have a nice day!
